Network support at the database host says that SQL Server Native Client 11.0, 2011.110.7001.00, SQLNCLI11.DLL,, works for them in their test environment. Download the SQL Server Native Client 11.0 ODBC Driver from Microsoft and use it to connect to SQL Server from 2005 and above. (Death by a thousand paper cuts might be preferred.) Back then, someone pointed me to a Microsoft article with the correct download file and installation instructions. Use Microsoft ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server to create new applications or enhance existing applications that need to take advantage of newer SQL Server features. When you search for the latest version of SQL Server Native Client, it will show you the version. As I recall, the hard part was finding the right download file on the Microsoft website. And to make Yitzhak happy, I told them to update their applications to use ODBC for SQL Server. More info about this driver can be found at the Microsoft. Later versions (13 and 17) of this driver supports more recent versions of SQL Server. Note that this driver supports SQL Server 2005 - 2014. I had done this several years ago on Windows 7, but heck if I can remember how.
